The Profession of Geology in New York: Legislative & Regulatory Updates

John M. Nadeau, Legislative Committee Chairmen of the New York State Council of Professional Geologists (NYSCPG), will present the legislative and regulatory changes in 2018 and what they mean to the profession of geology, your company, the individual, and the educational institutions within New York. The talk will focus on the ASBOG exam, rules of conduct, operating corporations with a Certificate of Authorization, and steps for NYS geology programs to become licensure qualified. The presentation will also discuss the future plans for changes within the profession, including the potential for continuing education requirements.

John M. Nadeau, P.G., CPG is a Senior Geologist with Alpha Geoscience, Clifton Park, NY and he served as president of the NYSCPG from 2011 through 2014. John continues in the role of Legislative Chairman and has spent significant time working with the State Education Department, NYS Department of State, NYS Legislature, and our sister professions in passing legislation related to the creation of the profession of geology in New York. He was recently chosen to become the next Executive Director of the Solution Mining Research Institute. John was president for the Hudson Mohawk Professional Geologists’ Association from 2009 through 2011. His professional experience includes conducting varied geological and hydrogeological work for mines, water supplies, aquifers, waste disposal, and hazardous and petroleum-impacted sites. John is certified by the American Institute of Professional Geologists and is registered or licensed as a Professional Geologist in New York, Utah, Missouri, and Nebraska.
